This is probably your first introduction to this exciting sport! It has its origins in the five-second rule where if you pick up your fallen tidbit within five seconds it is safe to eat.
I have undertaken extensive research in this fast-growing sport and as your diligent founder, I have refined this practice and added a level of sophistication.
CHOOSE YOUR OWN QUALIFYING ITEMS
A wide range of items are available for the novice to this sport:
Blueberries – these are a real challenge – fall in clusters but race off to other areas of the floor
Zucchini – a humble vegetable but a favourite for air-fryers
Carrot sticks – I have discussed this previously – this stage is prior to incineration
Sultana – often overlooked – because they disappear on wooden floor boards
Jelly Bean – similar to blueberries
INDIVIDUAL OR TEAM SPORTS
SO now I want you to set your serious training schedules. Lunging and swooping are power actions best not attempted without warm up.
Apply some strategy to your choice of food item – time of day variable. Here’s a great starter tip for you.
Trial this quiz to find your preferred food item.
Arrange the following food items in descending order of lunge speed once it hits the floor. Bonus points awarded if you are racing a pet to get to it.
LUNGE SPEED AND AGILITY TRIALS
Once you have the list in order of likely lunge speed (including the incentive from pets) you are on your way to becoming a Kitchen Olympian by choosing which foods to achieve your personal bests with.
As a boomer, I am limited in my lightning lunge speed. My knees have battled much in their lives, becoming snap crackle and pop. I compensate for that by having quick draw tongs to aid in my extensions.
Start your own elite training squad in your kitchen. Blast through the five-second barrier. Ignore hygiene and get on board with dropped food lunging.
