CURRENT EXERCISE REGIME INTERRUPTED
Some of you may know I have been a reluctant and spasmodic doer of exercises for mobility.
Some of my Boomer ‘body conditions’ have required it.
I was developing a somewhat regular morning use of the Goddess Pool at a local recreation centre.
There was also a regular Saturday morning aquarobics class with the inimitable Joke Chadwick.
So with the global change imposed on those activities, I decided to make use of the red vibrating demon thing (the featured image).
if you look carefully – you will see the dust and cat hair coating the surface.
No disrespect intended to the demon thing or its makers but it was bought in one of my many ‘get fit quick’ schemes and had not really been turned on or stood on since.
Frodo the cat (of gone Keto fame) has been very appreciative of the handy platform to sit on.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION REQUIRED
So yesterday, I stepped on to the vibrating thing and TURNED IT ON WITH MY TOE. (Yes – there was a remote for it – SOMEWHERE. I did mention it was from a previous iteration of ‘get fit quick’.)
All went well for about 90 secs, I was amazed at the stability of the snap, crack and pop joints (the Boomer arthritic knees), cruising with the jiggle and buzzing with the sensations from the waist down.
THIS IS GOOD!!!
THE ROT SETS IN
Um 100 seconds in – yes there is a timer…. the jiggling has now started to be felt in the neck and head region.
THIS IS NOT AS GOOD!
I find that my teeth are now starting to clench and the side to side head movements are not what Mother Nature intended for my head and neck (I did mention Boomer ‘body conditions’).
There is a vague headache starting to form and some 40 seconds further on, no more vagueness – I am getting a bit bleary-eyed from the headache pain and my smile from the first 90 seconds has long gone.
At the 180 seconds mark, my toe, of its own volition moves towards the start/stop button. I offered no resistance to my toe’s intention.
SUCCESS AND FAILURE ALL AT ONCE!
Successful cessation of the ill-advised replacement activity and cessation of the jiggling occurred precisely at 181 seconds.
Failure to achieve the cautious 5 minutes set – that is 300 seconds folks – and failure to achieve mobility activity for the day was recorded.
The greatest success though was in realising that my Boomer body has a very powerful mind as part of the set.
Of course, that is not an exclusive attribute of boomers but I am telling this tale so just listen up non-boomers and boomers without ‘body conditions’.
The mobility I am trying to maintain does not need to be restricted to a certain form of exercise or practice.
My mind and spirit and body all need various elements to stay healthy.
So I called on the lessons I have learned from and the things I do with 6 people to give me relief and solutions to my mobility of mind, body and spirit.
WHY DID I NEED 6 PEOPLE?
Well you can call on the stuff from 100 people if you wish but as I looked at how I can regain my former enthusiasm for keeping mobile in mind, body and spirit:
These are my winners for today. The list is not exhaustive just where my mind is today:
- Michele Dougherty of Shell Yoga and Mindfulness – for telling me all I have to remember is breathe
- Alyson McRitchie of Reflex Clinical Therapies – who showed me how my knees, hips and all my body integrates when I walk.
- Ingrid Moyle of Heart Harmony Communications – who gives warm, intelligent and very practical advice and techniques to make my mind unscramble in business and in life
- Pauline Fox of Pauline Fox Intuitive Guidance – for my necessary mental ‘kicks in the arse’ to regain perspective on what is REALLY important in life
- Marney Perna of Kinique Kinesiology – an extraordinaire in stress-busting
- Stuart Fisher of Popular Trivia – who gives me lessons in resilience and what to do on Friday nights in.
The red demon thing will be a stepping platform from now on. I have a number of sedate wall and floor exercises that I will revisit along with a big LONG red stretchy thing for resistance training.
I will use cans of baked beans as weights and try to find my runners to go walking in my back yard.
All sorted for the ‘body conditions’!
But you know none of those will be successful unless I apply the mobility exercises to the mind and spirit as part of the deal.
